In light of the recent mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Chapel Hill United Methodist Church will host an active shooter training on Sunday, December 3 from 3-5 pm. The event will be held in Chapel Hill’s sanctuary and stream live from the church website for those who are interested but unable to attend. This training is presented by the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. Rev. Hollie Tapley, Disaster Response Coordinator for the Great Plains Conference, will lead the presentation.
60% of active shooter incidents end within five minutes, before police arrive. Preparation is essential! This training will help churches develop, practice and implement emergency protocols to respond to active shooter situations in their facilities. The training will include information on concealed-carry laws in Kansas and Nebraska. Conference legal counsel are expected to attend.
The training is open to the public; representatives and members of other churches as well as the general public are expected and encouraged to attend. For those unable to participate either in person or via livestream, a recording of this presentation will subsequently be available on the Great Plains conference website.
