No Wednesday Night at the Hill

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian year.  Lent is a season of 40 days (plus Sundays) in which we prepare our hearts for Easter.  Traditionally, Lent is a time of prayer, repentance, and focusing on relationship with God.  Ash Wednesday is a somber observance that reminds us that we have come from the dust of the earth and upon death, we will return to the dust of the earth.  It is a day when we remember not only how fragile our lives truly are, but also when we remember the depth of God’s love for us.

Worship on this evening will be reflective and meditative.  At the end of the worship service, we will offer everyone a time to come forward and have the sign of the cross drawn on your forehead with ashes.  This is an ancient symbol that marks our lives as dusty souls, loved by God.
