This Sunday, we begin our Lenten Sermon Series based on the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Lively Virtues. Historically, Lent is a time for self-examination and spiritual growth. To that end, we are going to examine our own afflictive thoughts, as John Cassian from the 4th Century termed what we now call the seven deadly sins. St. John Cassian had eight – food, sex, things, anger, dejection, acedia, vainglory and pride. He offered 26 tools to deal with the afflictive thoughts. We will explore how to gain power over our thoughts which inform our feelings and ultimately result in our actions.
